Growing up in rural Indiana I spent my days wandering through the woods, creeks, and farmland of my grandparent’s homestead. I became familiar with the smell of hay, the texture of dirt, and the sound of water rushing over creek beds. Until sundown, you would find me playing make-believe and exploring the secrets of the natural landscape. While indoors I doodled countless dinosaurs, dragons, and Godzillas, and constructed my own little books from printer paper stapled together.
My interest in mythology came from frequent visits to the library on Saturday mornings with my dad and siblings. Bringing home books on Greek, Roman, and then Norse myths, led to my discovery of cryptozoology. I became fascinated with the stories of heroes, heroines, and morally ambiguous creatures. These stories also provided great mental fodder for drawing! While coming from a divorced family dynamic; folklore and fantasy served as an escape from stressful or emotionally tiring moments during childhood.
As an adult I have become more aware of the darkness we are exposed to on a daily basis. My desire is to provide a little light and whimsy through my drawings for those both young and old. Whether you are looking for an escape, a distraction, or a mischievous creature to make you smile, I hope that you find it in my illustrations and books. At the end of the day, I use these explorations through mythology and folklore to continue to show that as creatures of this world, we are more similar than we are different.
