First off, I’m going to apologize to my blog and and everyone who checks out my website: I’m sorry for neglecting you! I haven’t been great at updating here. I’ve been busy with that #momlife and working on my children’s book like a hermit (maybe I’ll share some sneaky peek sketches soon in a newsletter). I figured that while I don’t feel comfortable sharing any works in progress right now, I would share a little adventure my spouse and I had back in April.
A few weeks ago my spouse and I went on a much-needed weekend trip. We spent an awesome weekend in Nashville, Indiana, a hub for numerous outdoor activities. For anyone, especially in the Midwest, I recommend making a trip there if you love the outdoors, good beer, and Art Walks!
Speaking of art, I dedicated a page in my watercolor sketchbook to some birds that I’d never seen before in person. While on a hike one fine morning in Brown County State Park I spotted some Eastern Towhees. They’re very striking to see, with their black, white, and bright orange plumage. They were hopping around the underbrush just off the trail, I’m assuming looking for insects. They were so exciting to see…I may be a bit of a bird-nerd.
The weekend was a welcome respite from the combined grind of the work-week, raising a child, and trying to maintain a creative practice. I feel reenergized and glad we got a little breathing room even if it was just for a weekend. There is one thing I keep thinking about back in Brown County though….LOOK AT THIS DEEP FRIED GRILLED CHEESE.
